In addition, FDI enhances competition and boosts productivity through transfers of valuable technology and management know-how. A list of the benefits of trade and investment liberalization appearing in a recent publication of the OECD include greater freedom of choice, an increased degree of specialization and exchange based on comparative advantage, downward pressure on the prices of goods and services, productivity gains, technology and knowledge spillover, and a more efficient allocation of resources. Thereby, it increases consumer welfare through lower prices.

Q3. How do you think European Union regulations affected Toyota’s decision to invest in France?

We think European Union affected Toyotas decision to invest in France though it might be not the most crucial reason.

France is EU member, then it has a big advantage to invest.
First, EU promoted economic integration through single currency zone in EU countries.
Later, They can affect their market power on the whole European countries, not only on France.
Being EU, countries will be incorporated in cultural aspects because they are sharing political issues, lives of people. For this reason, if Toyota hit succeed in France, their cars can gain popularity at fast in EU countries. Countries of EU are becoming one, then Toyota made decision to invest in France, which is within EU.
As a result, using European Union regulations, Toyota tried to dominate not only within Europe’s single market, but also within the euro currency zone.
